Burger Boys Consensus – It’s worth a stop.
The People’s Rating – 3.91

The Golden Burger: Worth Your Bite?
Golden Tiger is a food truck nestled in the back of one of 6th Street’s staples, Whistlers. Whistlers is disorienting in a charming way. The lights are dim, there’s faux wax candles on the walls, and there’s a warm scent of recently burned palo santo. When you leave the downstairs bar, it opens up to a spacious patio whose vibes don’t quite align with the inside.
But the large outside patio is the perfect arena for smashing burgers.
We arrived just after they opened (which, as of this writing, is 2pm on Sundays). The patio was mostly empty, which is decidedly not the case on your average weekend evening.
The Golden Burger is Golden Tiger’s signature offering and it is, like Severus Snape, deceptively good. One reviewer went as far as to say it’s in their top 3 burgers in Austin. While The Boys don’t share the same vigorous affinity for it, we do agree that it is a solid burger.
It doesn’t do any one thing particularly great but, to its credit, it does a lot of things well. The abundance of fresh lettuce gives a refreshing crisp to the well-salted meat. The bun does what it needs to – holds it together (unlike us behind someone walking too slow).
As for the sides, the fries were underwhelming. We’re told they’re usually better – and we can understand that 12 burgers and a handful of sides right after opening is a lot – but we, unfortunately, have to judge on what we’re given.
All in all…if you found yourself at Whistler’s, out on 6th with a late-night craving, or wrapping up a pickleball sesh at nearby Pan Am, you could do a lot worse. This burger does a what bar burger is meant to: hit the spot.

The Voice of the People:
Here’s some of our favorite comments from the People, with a side of (hopefully delicious) snark.
Balanced experience top to bottom…but will I think of it when I’m not actively eating it? Not likely.
Tough but fair.
On a Sunday at 2pm, the burger-vibe combo was perfection. I have learned today…no tomato on a burger is a superior choice. Important to note: I kinda like a limp fry.
Someone get her husband some Blue Chew (or maybe don’t).
Sauce and bun were the stars of the show. Solid burg.
Solid “burg”? Someone busted out the thesaurus.
Smash-tac-ular, crispy burg + perfect amount of Red onion.
The R in red was capitalized. We don’t know why.
A well-executed take on the classic bar burger. Meat could use a touch more salt…and maybe more acid?
Calm down Anthony Bourdain.
I weirdly had too much lettuce on my burger which influenced the overall experience. However, I would say this is definitely a safe choice for a burger.
We can confirm their burger had an odd amount of lettuce.
The sauce is very good and the mezcal upstairs is a great pairing.
There’s an upstairs?
We felt these last two summed up the whole experience nicely:
A decent burger in a cool spot.
Good vibe, good burg.
Good vibes and good burgs. What more can you ask for?
The Consensus
It’s a hit.
It’s a double smashed with fresh (never frozen) ingredients. If you’re in the neighborhood or looking for some easy, tasty late night eats, it’s worth the stop.
